Is your brand using Pinterest? No? We bet you would be if you knew that Pinterest is considered the second largest search engine next to Google.

That’s right. It’s a search engine.

We’ve had clients (whom aren’t even actively using Pinterest as part of their social strategy) see it pop up continually in their monthly website analytics - bringing them referral traffic. A platform that is gaining you conversions, that you haven’t even invested in yet? Sounds like a winner to us!

We’ve got some great tips, tricks and hints for you to get started on it today. There’s a market for almost everyone on Pinterest - from bloggers, to social media marketers like us, to crafty moms and big box brands. If you have any type of content, or anything to sell - this is the place for you to get in front of the right audience.

Now before we get into it. First things first, make sure your website is mobile-friendly. 90% of users are browsing via their cell phones and if they click to your website and it’s not easily navigated, they will click right off.

Now, let’s get started.

Keywords, keywords, keywords.

As mentioned, Pinterest is a search engine, and it’s important to keep that in mind when pinning your content. You need to think like your client/user. What will they be entering into the search bar to find your content? Use this information to fill out your profile, name your boards and to write your captions.

Rich Pins

In the most simple form, rich pins are directly embedded into your site (written into the code actually) and they offer more information than regular pins. This information, like real-time pricing, sizes, availability, links, etc., cannot be removed by other users when they re-pin. Therefore you are ensured the integrity of your content is maintained, and the correct information is being passed around.

If this is something you’re interested in, the set up can be a little difficult so we recommend reading this how-to directly from Pinterest.

Group boards

Just like all other social platforms that are vital for business success, Pinterest also has joinable groups. These groups allow like-minded businesses, entrepreneurs or even buyers to share their content with each other. Think of it as a market place, or a marketing conference where everyone has the same goal.

How can you find these boards you may ask? Follow this step by step guide!

  1. Find a leader in your industry and go through their boards to find some group boards that may interest you. These are usually at the bottom of the page, after their own boards.
  2. You’ll know which ones are group boards because of the collage of members in the bottom left. Like this:

  1. Find a board that will benefit you and your brand, and read the description on how to join. They're all a little different - some require messages, some require e-mails, and some require follows.
  2. If the description says to send the owner of the board a message or a follow, you can find that person easily by clicking on the first person listed here:

Consistency

The standard on Pinterest is to be active 5-10 times a day, that means you need to be sharing content multiple times a day, 7 days a week. We know that sounds a little insane, but trust us here. We also know that’s impossible to manage as a business owner so it’s important to utilize scheduling tools. We LOVE Tailwind. It allows us to schedule multiple times a day, months in advance if we want to and even offers up some great analytics on what time and what days your demographic is perusing Pinterest.

Here's a great infographic on the science behind when and what to post from our friends over at Buffer:

Now go forth, young grasshopper, and get Pinterest worked into your social media strategy right away. We promise, once you have everything set up - it will be a breeze to manage, and your followers/fans will do the work for you! If this all still feels daunting, and you just don't have the time - we get it. Let's chat, and we can handle this for you.

Let's follow each other for inspiration. Find us here, and send us a message and we'll be SO happy to follow back.
