We are pretty proud of our team here at Mad Media, so we thought we’d take a few moments each month to introduce you to each of them. After all, our team is really what makes us successful. Follow along and get to know the people all over the world that are making the magic happen behind the scenes.
Today we're profiling Casey, who works as a Junior Graphic Designer with us here at Mad Media. We caught up with her to find out more about her adventures and what she listens to while turning out some amazing designs!
Where do you call home?
I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It may not sound as exciting as some of my other colleagues, but I love it. The Chinooks, the beautiful cityscape and wide open spaces and of course, the close proximity to the mountains. However, I’m not opposed to picking up tomorrow and embarking on an adventure to some far away land. You never know what may happen.
You are part of a virtual team and you work remotely. Where is your favourite space to work?
I currently have 2 main work stations: home, and school. They both have their perks. Obviously, my home office is my favourite place to be as it’s my own space and I can come and go as I please. It also allows me to steadily fuel my severe coffee addiction throughout the day, and take frequent cat breaks (which really are good for the soul). However, at school, I’m surrounded by so many other creative personalities and I’m able to bounce ideas off them and get inspired. When I find myself in a design slump, I head across the street (yes, I’m lucky enough to live across the street from my school) and put myself in the more vibrant environment over there.
What are you most excited about in 2015?
This year I will complete my graphic communications program, so I look forward to getting more involved in the design world and spending less time on homework. The experience I will gain working with the rest of the Mad Media team will beat any classroom learning. The creative “masterminds” that make up Mad Media are constantly blowing my mind and always pushing me to be better, and for this, I am grateful.
On the other side of things, I can’t wait to see what travel adventures 2015 will bring. 2014 was a big year (Ireland to Vegas to Jamaica) and I fully intend on topping that! Maybe some more music festivals are on the horizon for me…I digress.
What is it that drew you to Mad Media?
Mad Media came to me late last year with a ginormous opportunity that I would have been stupid to pass up. As a student, design positions like this don’t just fall into your lap. So when Tessa gave me the call to join the team, I pounced on it before she had the option to change her mind. The team is so diverse, literally stretching across the globe, which means the creative ideas and learning are endless. There is so much talent, and so many amazing personalities in the mix that I almost wish we had an office to assemble in and crack jokes with each other around the water cooler. But, then I remember commuting, and I say no thank you! The virtual office is the way forward, and we’ve got great communication platforms and company retreats for that.
What is your favourite or most embarrassing work jam?
This question excites me! Before I even had the interview questions in my hand, I knew I was going to share my current creativity boosting playlist. I’m never embarrassed about a jam, if it makes you happy, then who cares, right?
Here are the tunes that are currently circulating during my work days. I’m always mixing the old with the new. Feel free to follow me on Spotify (“Casey Deane Mathison”) so we can continue this music exchange (bonus points for self promotion!).
