Stop Making Excuses and Post that Video!

If the almighty algorithm is changing, so should your content. It’s simple; if you are not posting videos to TikTok or Instagram Reels, you’ll miss out on building brand loyalty, consumer trust, and as a result, cold hard cash.

We’re not here to sell you some social media marketing BS; the proof is in the pudding. One of our own team members started posting videos specific to their brand on TikTok and gained over 80K followers in just six months. Impressive, right?! We know what you may be thinking, but rest assured, TikTok and IG Reels are not limited to silly dances. They can be used for educational and entertaining content for your niche audience too!

Moral of the story? Videos work. And here’s why:

1. Authenticity sells

The era of the ‘picture perfect’ influencer is slowly dying. People want to see authenticity. There is value in relatability, and this idea of authenticity does not just stop and end at ‘influencers’; brands can and have been adapting it into their social media strategies.

This is where TikTok and Reels come into play. These short-form videos allow brands and creators to make content that isn’t very branded but is still accomplishing a business goal. These goals can include reach, more engagement, larger brand awareness, or even in some cases, direct sales.

Viewers do not want to feel like you are shoving a perfected ad down their throats. This type of ‘realness’ is hard to capture in a singular image post. Reels and Tiktoks allow you to create more ‘conversational’ and entertaining content.

At the end of the day building a connection with your audience is vital. And with authentic content comes stronger connections and community. Which will ultimately lead to a larger following and… wait for it…

Sales!

2. The algorithm is on your side... For once

It's fair to say that TikTok has risen to the top social media game. It had a crazy impressive launch into the app world. Today, TikTok has over 500 million daily active users and more than 80 million downloads. For comparison, Instagram’s downloads currently stand at 11 million.

TikTok’s popularity comes from its easy-to-digest, quick, and entertaining content, and its friendly algorithm is another reason small businesses and creators swear by it. Your content is almost guaranteed to be seen by new eyes anytime you post. Obviously, nothing is 100% guaranteed, but small businesses have received an influx of views and sales just because of a TikTok going viral over the past two years. In addition to this, even recycled content on TikTok has the possibility to grow traction as well, depending on who it’s reaching and when.

When Instagram introduced IG Reels, it was to compete with TikTok directly. Instagram was adapting TikTok’s format but also trying to replicate its algorithm. One of the best growth hacks on the app right now is to post constant Reels to your page. One creator states she gained over 2,000 followers in a month by posting a Reel every day.

Instagram has adopted the concept of TikToks ‘For You Page’ and implemented it into their Reels section. Whether you are on the explore page or the Reels tab, you will be exposed to Reels from accounts you follow as well as popular reels from trending accounts and sounds. This is an excellent opportunity for brands and creators to reach a larger audience on Instagram.

3. Quick, digestible content

Why is quick content doing well?

It’s simple; people want easy to digest information. These short-form videos are little packaged shots of dopamine for viewers. Our brain feels rewarded when an action gives us pleasure, and information is a commodity that makes us feel rewarded. When you put information into bite-sized clips, it’s reward after reward. (It’s like Christmas morning 500 times a day!)

It all started with Vine, which arguably revolutionized social media. Vine was taken down in 2016 but the format and culture it created have not gone anywhere. To this day, you will see and hear people making Vine references. (Road work ahead, anyone?) This is because the content was quick but repetitive.

TikTok and IG Reels have adapted this concept. If you are a TikTok user, you can probably quote multiple viral TikTok sounds and songs and the repetitive nature of the app makes it easy for viewers to want to consume similar content. (Quick tip: Popular sounds are particularly helpful for creators and business owners because using a trendy sound can help guarantee reach!)

At the end of the day creating informational, quick, and engaging content might take a couple of tries. But once you have a working formula, it’s all just rinse and repeat for the most part.

SO, NOW WHAT?…

Anybody with a phone, wifi, and a story to tell has the ability to commodify that. If you are a business owner, an artist, a content creator, or are trying to sell anything at all, you can. If you don’t feel like you have the resources to manage this on your own, let us help you!

The algorithm is on your side; all you need is to be consistent and make good sh*t. What are you waiting for?
